  • Children may only be hospitalised if the required care cannot be provided as effectively by house care or by regular visits to the hospital.

  • Hospitalised children have the right to constant contact with their parents and siblings. Where possible, parents should be supported and encouraged to stay in the hospital with the child. To be able to contribute to the care provided to their child, parents should be informed about the department operations and encouraged to actively take part.

  • Children and their parents have the right to information in a form that adequate to their age and understanding capacity. They also must be able to talk openly about their needs with the staff.

  • Children or their parents have the right to contribute to all decision-making regarding the provided health care by making informed decisions. Children must be protected from all procedures which are not necessary for their treatment and from all unnecessary actions taken due to their physical or emotional distractions.

  • Children must be treated carefully and with understanding and their privacy must be respected at all times.

  • Children have to be treated by adequately qualified staff who are fully aware of the physical and emotional needs of children of all ages.

  • Children must have the option to wear their own clothes and take their personal belongings to the hospital.

  • Children have to be treated together with other children of the same age.

  • Children must be treated in an environment which is equipped accordingly to their development needs and requirements and is in compliance with approved health and safety regulations and rules of children‘s care.

  • Children must have the opportunity to games, relaxation and education which adequate to their age and health conditions.
