Clinic of Anaesthesiology, Intensive and Emergency Medicine

Our department provides care in its three sections in the full range of the field of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Medicine. It includes the administration of general and general anaesthesia for surgical procedures, but also for diagnostic and therapeutic reasons, for both adult and paediatric patients from birth onwards.The department also includes an Anesthesiology Outpatient Clinic, which is used to perform pre-anesthetic examinations on patients undergoing elective surgery or examination at FNB in the presence of an anesthesiologist.

Resuscitation Department provides admission of patients with failure of basic life functions who require urgent resuscitation care. The department has 15 ventilated beds with modern instrumentation, including continuous elimination techniques, plasmapheresis and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).

Urgent Intake Department is an affiliated unit providing acute care to patients at risk of failure of basic life functions. The department's website is HERE.

Pain Management Unit caters to patients with chronic pain of various origins and has been incorporated under the ARO of FNB since 2011. The outpatient clinic is located on the ground floor of pavilion 9. For more information HERE.

Specific activities of the department

The ARO of Bulovka University Hospital was historically one of the first to become intensively involved in the practical application of regional anaesthesia of all types. We routinely provide anaesthesia for thoracic surgical pulmonary procedures with selective ventilation. In cooperation with Orthopaedic Clinic of the Faculty of Medicine, 1st Faculty of Medicine and the IPVZ, our department also provides perioperative care for patients undergoing complex orthopaedic procedures, including oncological surgery in adult and paediatric patients.

Anesthesia care in connection with childbirth

In cooperation with the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Clinic of the FNB and the 1st Faculty of Medicine of the Charles University in Prague, we provide anaesthesia for elective and acute caesarean sections and other procedures in the maternity ward. Parents also have access to a 24-hour service from the anaesthesia team for the insertion of obstetric epidural analgesia.

Education and Research

We are a Type II accredited facility for postgraduate training in both Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine and Emergency Medicine. Internships in basic strains are completed by doctors not only from FNB.

Within the framework of science and research we deal with mathematical processing of biological signals of patients in intensive care and blood clotting disorders in emergency conditions. Our research projects are carried out in cooperation with the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering of the Czech Technical University.
