Institute of Gastrointestinal Oncology of the Faculty of Medicine

"Time is of the essence."

The Institute of Gastrointestinal Oncology (IGO) is a professional (horizontal) structure linking individual clinical disciplines involved in research, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of gastrointestinal cancers. It connects the clinical part (FNB) with the scientific research and experimental part (UK).

The Department of Gastrointestinal Oncology of the FNB has been involved in screening of pancreatic cancer for patients at risk (SCREPAN) since 2025. To enroll in the screening program, complete this form

He is also participating in the LIPIDICA study, which aims to validate the clinical function of the LDPC(LipidomicsDdiagnostic of Pancreatic Ccancer) test for early detection of pancreatic cancer.

A multidisciplinary team of experts including gastroenterologists, surgeons, oncologists, pathologists and radiologists are involved in the work of the Institute. Physicians from other clinical disciplines dedicated to nutrition, palliative medicine or pain management are also available to meet the needs of patients.

The team includes trained nursing staff and a case coordinator who guides the patient through the entire therapeutic and diagnostic process. Together, we create individualized therapeutic approaches that optimize the treatment directly tailored to each patient and lead to the best possible results in the shortest possible time.

Activities of the IGO

  • Creating prerequisites for early diagnosis and treatment of malignant diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.
  • Determination of the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment algorithm.
  • Improvement of care in primary and secondary prevention of these diseases and their search in the population.
  • Integration of modern methods of diagnosis and treatment in order to shorten all steps as much as possible, increase the effectiveness of treatment and reduce the cost of care.
  • Integrating all levels of research, i.e. from basic research to the implementation of new technologies and therapeutic approaches at the applied research level, specifically focused on malignant diseases of the digestive tract.
  • Linkage at the level of patient - clinical division - research and experiment, where the result of this collaboration will be personalized treatment of individual patients.
  • Providing comprehensive research and teaching opportunities, in both undergraduate and postgraduate modes.
