Department of Hygiene and Epidemiology

Basic Information

The department applies hygienic and anti-epidemic approaches in the specific conditions of FNB. The basic activity is the protection and promotion of health and healthy living conditions, and the prevention of the occurrence and spread of infectious and mass-occurring diseases, in the form of specific (health protection) and non-specific (health promotion) primary prevention. 

We monitor the occurrence and nature of diseases, the causes and conditions of their emergence and spread in the human population (including animal-to-human transmissible diseases) and apply methods of their prevention, suppression and elimination. On the basis of the knowledge obtained, we implement epidemiological measures in practice, both preventive and repressive in nature.

The activities of hospital hygiene also include cooperation with various medical disciplines focused on the prevention, diagnosis and therapy of diseases, as well as activities in the field of nutritional hygiene, municipal hygiene and occupational hygiene. In addition, the work activities of the department presuppose knowledge of basic technical standards and technological procedures from other disciplines.

The staff of the Department of Hygiene and Epidemiology of the FNB also conducts training of employees, companies or teaches or presents lectures at professional conferences. 

Specialized activities

  • Preventive activities - risk assessment, control activities to ensure compliance with the correct principles and procedures of the field of hygiene and epidemiology in accordance with current legislation and the latest scientific knowledge.
  • Monitoring of the epidemiological situation - monitoring of hospital infections and the occurrence of resistant microorganisms.
  • Evaluation of investment plans related to construction and building modifications from the point of view of hygiene and epidemiological principles and equipment of medical workplaces in accordance with the requirements of the current legislation.
  • Control of working conditions and environment with evaluation of the level of risk of individual factors and drafting of a proposal for categorization of work or solution of suspected occupational diseases.
  • Control activities in the field of waste handling, laundry, cleaning quality, quality and handling of food.
  • Collaboration with the public health authority in the investigation of nosocomial infections, in the reporting of community infections and the registration of professional diseases and other state organizations with competence in the protection of public health.
  • Control activities aimed at compliance with regime measures, the principles of the operating rules of the department and the rules of internal documentation.
