Scope of activities of the hospital

The Bulovka Teaching Hospital forms a single functional, organizational and economic unit, which is mainly engaged in the following activities:

  • The hospital is a selected medical and educational facility designated by the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic. It provides adults and children with outpatient and inpatient basic, specialized and particularly specialized diagnostic and therapeutic care, which includes necessary preventive measures. Health services are provided in the catchment area defined by the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic and on the territory of the entire Czech Republic.
  • The hospital's medical workplaces are teaching bases of medical or other faculties, IPVZ, or other institutions for the education of physicians and other health care professionals.
  • The hospital provides professional practical training for students of secondary and higher medical schools. It can also conduct qualification courses to acquire competence for the practice of lower and auxiliary health professions.
  • The hospital conducts basic and clinical research, introduction and validation of new knowledge and methods in clinical practice. It participates in clinical trials of drugs and validation of medical devices to demonstrate their efficacy, safety and quality. In doing so, it cooperates with institutions in the Czech Republic and abroad.
  • The hospital provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care, provides transfusion services and processes biological material and performs a large range of laboratory tests in individual fields of medicine
  • The hospital provides the so-called "laboratory services". other activities, especially economic, operational, technical, investment, administrative and other similar activities in the scope necessary for the operation of the hospital. It also provides its own supply of medicines and medical devices.
  • The hospital may also carry out other, complementary activities outside its main activity, in accordance with legal regulations, in scope and under the conditions set by the founder.
  • The hospital enters into contractual relations with health insurance companies. The hospital receives financial resources for its activities mainly from reimbursements for the provided health care from health insurance companies and from other activities carried out in accordance with the valid founding charter.

Basic Tasks of the Hospital

To fulfill its mission in the field of health services, the hospital performs the following tasks at its medical departments:

1. cares for the health of the population by:
- carries out preventive, dispensary and investigative activities,
- carries out curative and nursing activities,
- carries out consular and superconsular activities,
- carries out laboratory examinations,
- operates centres for the provision of health care and services in specialised fields,
- ensures the operation of pharmacies, and even at night,
- provides transport of patients by its own or contracted means of transport,
- provides catering services through an external supplier in its own facility,
- provides heating, electricity and water supply for its needs.

2. Provides for the education of the population by:
- providing, in cooperation with the locally competent education authority, primary and kindergarten services for long-term hospitalized pediatric patients,
- fulfilling its educational and training functions in accordance with the object of its activities.

3. Ensures the training and education of health professionals by:
- facilitates the training of medics and students of other universities, high schools or other schools or educational institutions with a medical focus, directly at the hospital's workplaces (clinics),
- trains its own auxiliary medical staff,
- monitors the development of medical science and technology and uses, to the necessary extent, the experience and expertise of its own and other medical institutions, incl.
- carries out basic and clinical research, especially associated with grant activities,
- operates its own accommodation facilities for its employees.

The hospital also performs tasks in accordance with special regulations within the Integrated Rescue System, crisis preparedness of health care, humanitarian aid and population protection.
