Surgical Clinic

The Surgical Clinic of FNB, 1st Faculty of Medicine of Charles University and IPVZ provides outpatient and hospital care for patients requiring surgical treatment. 

The clinic is located in building 5 and has a total of 64 beds, of which 15 are intensive care beds and 7 beds in superior room mode. The clinic has four operating theatres and also uses a multidisciplinary robotic operating theatre.

The clinic also has anacute and general outpatient clinics and specialty clinics providing experimental and superspecialty care.

Scope of care at the surgical clinic

Abdominal surgery in its entirety

  • Digestive tract surgery - benign and malignant diseases of the esophagus, stomach, small and colon and rectum, including treatment of non-specific intestinal inflammation.
  • Malignant and benign diseases of the biliary tract of the pancreas and liver. Reconstruction of the biliary tract for stenosis of iatrogenic origin.
  • Laparoscopic operations in abdominal surgery are commonplace and this includes operations for tumours of the digestive tract. Relatively new is the SILS method (single incision laparoscopy).
  • Operation of abdominal wall hernias including minimally invasive procedures.

Vascular Surgery

  • The spectrum of vascular surgery at the clinic includes procedures on the arteries branching off from the aortic arch, mainly supplying the brain, and procedures on the arteries of the upper and lower limbs.
  • The clinic also performs post-traumatic arterial reconstruction. In addition to arterial procedures, we perform operations on the veins of the lower limbs, operations on the great veins and operations on vessels in connection with cancer.
  • In cooperation with the dialysis centre, we construct shunts for dialysis access.

Endoscopic examinations of the GIT

  • Gastroscopy, coloscopy, rectoscopy, endosonography of the rectum, anal manometry.

Thoracic surgery in its entirety

  • Surgery of the lung, mediastinum, diaphragm, esophagus, all including minimally invasive approaches.
  • Surgery of palmar hyperhidrosis and other diseases of the autonomic nervous system.

Surgical Intensive Care

  • Postoperative intensive care is provided including care for patients requiring artificial pulmonary ventilation.

Surgery of the mammary gland

  • Treatment of malignant and nonmalignant breast diseases. Reconstructive procedures in cooperation with Clinic of Plastic Surgery FNB.

Oncosurgery

  • This is cancer surgery. Its individual components are included in the above headings. The clinic is one of the departments of the Comprehensive Cancer Centre. In selected cases, we provide irreversible electroporation treatment with the Nano Knife device.

Robotic Surgery

Our operating room features the cutting-edge Da Vinci Xi robotic system, which represents a new era of highly specialized surgical care. The robotic workstation is mainly used for surgical procedures performed in a minimally invasive method with maximum precision. For patients, this means less intervention in the body, shorter recovery and a faster return to a full life. 

The multidisciplinary operating room is used primarily for surgical, onco-surgical, gynaecological, urological or otorhinolaryngological, abdominal and vascular procedures.
