Palliative Medicine Outpatient Clinic

The Palliative Medicine Outpatient Clinic at the University Hospital was established in September 2024 under the leadership of Irena Pechanová, MD. In addition to the doctor-palliative team, social workers, nurses, a psychologist, and a hospital chaplain are involved in the palliative team's activities.

The main mission of the palliative team is to ensure a dignified departure for patients whose targeted medical care has been terminated. Patients at this stage most often have three basic wishes: to heal and manage pain, sleep and psychological suffering. Therefore, the palliative physician first and foremost tries to find a medication that is individually suitable enough for the patient to improve their quality of life, to improve their survival. Whether at home or in inpatient care, which is provided for patients by social workers.

Palliative care at Bulovka University Hospital includes three main stages:

  1. care for inpatients in the inpatient wards and clinics of the FNB
  2. care for outpatients, especially those with oncological diseases
  3. care in home environment, usually in cooperation with home hospice
