The Gynaecology and Obstetrics Clinic of the 1st  Faculty of Medicine of Charles University and the Bulovka University Hospital (GPK) provides a full spectrum of gynaecological care. 

We emphasize a professional and at the same time human and individual approach to our patients. Our goal is to provide quality professional care in accordance with the knowledge of modern medicine.

In oncogynecology we perform common and the most complex oncogynecological surgery procedures. We work closely with the Oncology Department, the Institute of Radiation Oncology and other surgical disciplines. Within the framework of multidisciplinary cooperation, we are able to provide all pre-operative, operative and follow-up oncological care to patients.

In the field of urogynecology we are a teaching center for advanced teaching and training. We perform a wide range of urogynecological procedures, including procedures with minimal burden on patients.

  • We are an accredited centre for advanced training and education in child gynaecology. We provide pediatric patients not only outpatient care but also surgical care in indicated cases.
  • We perform expert ultrasound examinations and all types of screening in pregnancy.
  • We participate in the treatment of transsexual patients undergoing surgical sex reassignment from female to male.
  • The care we provide also includes outpatient clinics for congenital disposition to tumors, genetics, senology, colposcopy and treatment of endometriosis.

Postoperative ward

The Department of Surgery specializes in the care of patients after classical, endoscopic, oncological, senological and urogynecological surgeries. Patients are usually admitted to the department 1 day before the planned surgery. Immediately after surgery, patients are usually transferred to the ICU. The length of stay in the ICU depends on the nature, radicality of the procedure and postoperative adaptation. Afterwards, the patient is transferred back to the postoperative ward.

We offer the possibility of providing extra food for all patients.

The ward consists of

  • 2 superior single rooms, which are equipped with private toilet, internet connection, TV, fridge and kettle, the price is 1000 CZK per day.
  • 6 standard triple rooms.

Conservative ward, ward of pregnancy at risk and ward of six months

Department consists of two sub-units:

  1. risk pregnancy
  2. conservative gynaecology
  3. chest delivery

We provide highly specialized care for clients with at-risk pregnancies who require hospitalization. In collaboration with the Intermediate Care Unit of the Neonatology Department, we manage a wide range of pathologies leading to (imminent) preterm birth. We transfer clients with pathological conditions that could result in the delivery of a premature newborn before 32 weeks of pregnancy to other maternity units where treatment of extremely premature newborns is possible. Complicated infections in pregnancy are consulted with Infectious Diseases Clinic. We also take care of problems associated with the first trimester of pregnancy. There are 2 triple rooms with television and bathroom facilities for six clients.

Conservative gynaecology means care for clients especially those with inflammation and tumours of the female tract, which is done in a non-operative way. We use the presence of other specialised departments, which are concentrated in the premises of the Bulovka University Hospital -, especially the oncology, surgical, orthopaedic, urological, infectious diseases and plastic surgery clinics. There are 2 triple rooms with TV and sanitary facilities for six female clients.

Due to the increased demand for single rooms of the maternity ward, 7 single superior rooms and 2 double rooms were created on the fifth floor. At the same time, a new neonatal ward was created to provide optimal care for newborns.

Maternity rooms are available:

  • 4 single rooms with private bathroom, two of which have access to the terrace, TV, refrigerator (price 1700 CZK/night).
  • 3 double rooms, the second bed is for the accompanying mother. The rooms have their own bathroom, access to the terrace, TV, fridge (price 1700 CZK/night + 600 CZK/night for the escort).
  • 2 double rooms with TV and bathroom for four parents. These rooms are not refundable.

A buffet breakfast is offered daily to all patients without dietary restrictions.

Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

Medical care in the ICU department is provided to patients by qualified staff 24 hours a day. Most of the nursing staff is certified in anaesthesia, resuscitation and intensive care.

The length of stay in the ICU after uncomplicated procedures (laparoscopic operations, caesarean sections, etc.) is usually 1 day and then the patient is transferred to one of the standard wards. After more serious operations (oncological operations, etc.) and in the event of complications, the stay in the ICU is longer -  depending on the patient's condition.

Visits to the ICU are not possible for operational and hygienic reasons. In exceptional cases they are possible after individual agreement with ICU staff.

Information about hospitalized patients is given by the doctor every weekday between 07.10 and 07.40 and on weekends between 08.30 and 10.00 (after providing the password that the patient enters in the documentation during admission).

Operating rooms

In the large operating theatre, the so-called "surgery" is performed. large gynaecological surgery - i.e.  oncogynaecological and urogynaecological operations, more complex laparoscopic operations and also breast surgery.

The large operating room is equipped with modern equipment.

Simpler laparoscopic surgeries and day surgery procedures are performed in the operating room. The operating room is also equipped with a laparoscopic tower.

The third operating room is located in the ward of the maternity ward and is used for termination of cesarean delivery and management of postpartum complications.

We work with modern technology in all theatres, use disposable drapes and most of the equipment is disposable.
